Maine lobsterman catches rare blue lobster

SCARBOROUGH, ME (NEWS CENTER) — A rare sight made landfall in a lobsterman’s trap on Saturday morning. Jay LaPlante with the Miss Meghan Lobster Catch company caught a blue lobster off Pine Point in Scarborough around 10:45 Saturday morning. Jay reports he and his 14 year-old daughter Meghan were hauling traps when she discovered the 2 pound cerulean crustacean. Jay and Meghan tell News Center it’s the first time they’ve ever caught a blue lobster. Meghan has named the lobster “Skyler”, and says this lucky guy is going to avoid the dinner plate. Meghan has decided to donate Skyler to the Maine State Aquarium located in West Boothbay Harbor. According to aquarium staff, Skyler will have plenty of company. It will join 3 other blue lobsters and an orange one in the tank. If you’d like to visit Skyler and friends, the aquarium is open 7 days a week from 10-5pm. State Police said a mother, father, and three children were found dead in their home in Saco Sunday.

Police say a friend of the family called a worker associated with the apartment complex to check on the family after growing concerned for them.

The worker entered the apartment, saw one body and called Saco Police around 1:30 ET Sunday afternoon. When officers arrived, they discovered the other bodies in three different rooms.

In a statement, State Police said “all indications are that no one outside of the family was responsible for the deaths.” They said a gun was found in the apartment next to one of the bodies.

The Nigerian city of Lagos on Monday shut down and quarantined a hospital where a man died of Ebola in the first recorded case of the highly infectious disease in Africa’s most populous country.

Patrick Sawyer, a consultant for the Liberian finance ministry in his 40s, collapsed on arrival at Lagos airport on July 20 and was put in isolation at the First Consultants Hospital in Obalende, one of the most crowded parts of a city that is home to 21 million people. He died on Friday.

“We have shut the hospital to enable us to properly quarantine the environment. Some of the hospital staff who were in close contact with the victim have been isolated,” Lagos state health commissioner Jide Idris told Nigerian TV.

The hospital will be shut for a week and all staff monitored to ensure the virus has not spread, he added.
